Why We Created Homee

Homee started from the challenges we saw while working with international buyers in Japan. Here’s a little story about why we created Homee and what we hope to make easier.

By Keisuke & Haruka

Haruka Oide and Keisuke Idegawa, founders of Homee, a platform making Japanese real estate easier to explore in English.

Why We Created Homee

When I started Akiya Supporter, I began working with people from many different countries who were interested in buying property in Japan.

One thing I noticed very quickly was how difficult it can be to even start searching for a property if you don't speak Japanese.

Of course, you can use translation tools, and there are some English websites out there.

But during my regular online meetings with international buyers, I kept hearing the same thing:

I've seen so many websites and Instagram posts, but I don't know which ones I can actually trust.

That really stayed with me.

That was one of the reasons we started talking about Homee.

Two different experiences

Keisuke and I have quite different backgrounds.

Keisuke has worked in the Japanese housing and real estate industry for many years. Before starting his own company, House Forward, he worked mainly in new-build housing. Now his work covers property sales, investment properties, renovations, vacant homes and other areas of real estate.

So he knows the industry and how things actually work in Japan.

My experience came more from the international buyer's side.

Through Akiya Supporter, I've helped people from different countries navigate Japanese real estate, and honestly, I've learned a lot from my clients too.

When you work with international buyers, you start noticing things that Japanese people don't really think about.

Things that seem completely normal to us can be very confusing if you've never bought property in Japan before.

Sometimes it's the language, but sometimes it's just the way things are done here.

When House Forward and Akiya Supporter started working together, we talked about this quite a lot.

There are so many interesting properties in Japan, and there are so many people overseas who are interested in them.

But somehow, there is still a big gap between the two.

Keisuke and I realized that our different experiences could help bridge that gap — his experience in Japanese real estate, and mine working directly with international buyers.

And that's what we wanted to bring together with Homee.

We wanted to make the starting point easier

We didn't create Homee because we thought Japan needed another property website. There are already plenty of them.

What we wanted was a place where people overseas could search for Japanese properties easily — and feel confident about where the information comes from.

Trust was important to us.

Homee is operated by a licensed real estate company in Japan, and our property listings are provided through AtHome with official authorization.

Maybe you're seriously planning to buy, thinking about moving to Japan someday, looking for an investment or an akiya to renovate, or simply curious.

All of those are fine.

Homee is simply a place to start.

You can search properties across Japan in English, explore different areas, save the ones you like, and take the next step when you're ready.

We're still building it

This is also important to us.

Homee is new, and we know there will be things we can improve.

We have our own ideas, but the people actually using Homee will probably notice things that we don't.

So please tell us.

We’re excited to see how Homee grows, and we hope you enjoy using it as much as we enjoyed creating it.

Welcome to Homee 😊
